Coimbatore residents relieved as power cut reduces
Coimbatore- The rural residents of the city are in relief as there was only two hours of power cut from past two days.
Earlier it was 10 -14 hours of power cut in Coimbatore a day. According to an official of the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO), better winds during the past two days improved wind energy generation which in turn reduced the load shedding duration. It is assumed that as long as the wind energy generation is good there will be less power cuts.
The data available with the Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation (Tantransco) website says that wind energy generation on December 17 was 1,176 MW. It was 1,073 MW on December 16 morning and 178 MW on December 13.
According to the chairman of Indian Wind Power Association, K. Kasthoorirangaian, high winds are now unusual and unseasonal. He highlighted that there was an increase of 55 percent in wind energy generation in May and September 2012 as compared to 2011.
This situation in Coimbatore forced many feeders having large number of industrial connection to ask power supply for them. The TANGEDCO was thus providing uninterrupted power supply for four hours a day to 150 feeders and about 10 other industries were also receiving uninterrupted power supply for 12 hours a day. The request of power supply to other industries will also be granted when favorable situation arrives.
