Commercial activity in residential building, BMC neglects
BMC has admitted that it did not act upon the illegal activities that were going on in a residential building in Sion.
In a recent response to a query under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, it came into light that the civic body has not taken any action against an unlicensed residential building in Sion in which commercial activity was running.
The residents of the building were amazed to know that the civic body of F/North Ward has not taken any action against the same.
The commercial activity in the property in Sion, 38, West Building near Swami Nityanand Hall includes a gymnasium which is spread over the second floor.
Residents allege that they would get disturbed from the loud music and claimed that the dumbbells and weight plates were making the 50-year-old two-storey structure weaker. Residents on the first floor were especially troubled by the noise created on their ceilings.
The RTI copy which was filed by NGO Tarun Mitra Mandal on tenants’ approach had asked for a copy of user license to conduct such activity in a building. However, the building and factory departments of the BMC both denied having granted any user license change to the building.
Furthermore, the NGO and residents allege that the civic body should have taken action on their own before filing of any such case. The gym owner said that all necessary permissions have been taken and a commercial activity was being run from this place already before they moved in.
