Connaught place building with 7 floors catches fire, 1 dead

fireNew Delhi-  The early Monday morning witnessed a major fire tragedy at the 12-storey Himalaya House in central Delhi. The fire stuck rapidly gutting seven floors of the building and claiming a guards life who was trapped inside. It took about 7 hours for the 30 fire tenders to douse the blazes which started from the third floor of the building situated at the Kasturba Gandhi Marg near Connaught Place. The cause of the fire  is unknown.

The fire rapidly spread to the ninth floor due to the presence of construction material and lack of proper fire safety devices.

Since, the fire broke early morning, the causalities were restricted to just one. The building however consists of 120 offices and quite many guards out of which one died due to asphyxiation as  it is believed that the victim was on the 11th floor and died of suffocation.

Various prominent firm branches were situated in the building like Max Life insurance, MetLife insurance, SBI bank, United India insurance, Atlas cycles and Franklin Templeton investments.
