Corporation’s drive to curb illegal mobile towers
New Delhi- In order to keep a check on the illegal mobile towers in Delhi, a special drive has been initiated by the corporation.
Reports state that in the past few months, there has been an increase in the number of illegal cellphone towers in residential colonies.
Out of 5,656 mobile towers in Delhi there are about 2,656 illegal mobile towers. There have been notices sent to the cellular companies by the East Delhi Municipal Corporation, demanding them to remove all the illegal towers. Similarly, this process will be followed by the North Corporation.
It was stated by P K Gupta, commissioner of North corporation, that there are about 660 illegal mobile towers in their area and that they are conducting fresh searches to track down the newly installed illegal mobile towers. He also said that they will initially issue notices to the companies to either remove the towers or to get it approved by the civic agencies. In case the firms fail to obey the norms, the towers will be sealed.
There are about 1,470 cellphone towers out of which 588 are illegal in East Delhi. The South corporation has 2,834 mobile towers out of which 1,543 are illegal. Concerning the harmful radiation being emitted from these towers, the civic agency has received many complaints. Henceforth the latest policy will be applied while installing cellphone towers.
