Corporation’s prolonged delay in laying link road irks residents

Comments(5) Sub Category:Civic Issues,Maintenance,Other cities Posted On: Nov 27, 2012

Tiruchi- The delay in transferring a piece of Defence land by Tiruchi Corporation for laying an approach road between residential colonies around Edamalaipatti Pudur/Crawford and the K.K.Nagar Main Road, has highly disappointed the residents of the region.

They have requested the corporation to look into the matter at the earliest.

It has been four years that the civic body had planned to seek the transfer of nearly 3000 square metres of Defence land owing to the residents demand for a link road across the land. For many years, residents of several colonies were using pathway over the training area of the 117 Infantry Battalion, The Guards, as a shortcut to reach K. K. Nagar, to reach schools, offices, shops and hospitals. Numerous vehicles were also using the shortcut route ignoring the signboards of the TA warning against trespassing.

TheĀ Territorial Army (TA) authorities were disturbed by the residents’ and vehicles’ intrusions in their training area wherein soldiers are given training and physical fitness routines.

As a measure to stop trespassing, they dug three to four feet deep trenches at the entry points to the colonies. After this, the residents, especially school children, who used to just walk across to reach KK Nagar have been forced to go by a long way, ending up paying high for transport, alleged M.Sethuraman, president, Federation of Residents Welfare Associations, Crawford and Edamalaipattipudur.
