Court bars construction in Gurgaon

Comments(3) Sub Category:Gurgaon,Municipality Posted On: Jul 17, 2012

The Punjab and Haryana high court has barred the state government and other agencies from issuing fresh licenses for any construction activity in Gurgaon unless builders gave an undertaking to not draw underground water.

Raising concerns about the depleting groundwater level in Gurgaon, the bench asked the state officials to give details of how many water connections have been released till now by the authorities. The bench also instructed Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) to ensure that the undertaking of these constructions does not hamper the source of water.

The court has directed the secretaries of town and country planning, Gurgaon deputy commissioner, the Public Health Department and Huda administrator to remain present in the court for next hearing.

The court gave the order on a bunch of petitions filed complaining about depleting level of water. The order is set to rattle the construction industry for it will have a massive impact on nearly 350 big-ticket commercial and residential projects in the city.
