DDA asked to address problem of congestion on Delhi roads
At a recently-held review meeting with regard to the various potential initiatives to be undertaken by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu stressed on the need for DDA to address the problem of congestion on Delhi roads.
At the review meeting, a series of ambitious projects were drawn up for the DDA for enabling speedy and hassle-free travel in Delhi. Initiatives were also firmed up for the DDA to provide public spaces for recreation and quality living, as well as to promote improved walkability and women safety.
The meeting was attended by Urban Development Secretary Shankar Aggarwal; DDA Vice-Chairman Balwinder Kumar; and a number of other senior officials of the Urban Development Ministry and DDA.
The proposals pertaining to the decongestion of Delhi roads chiefly laid down the initiatives to be taken up by DDA to de-congest five of the city’s most critical roads that witness heavy traffic and gridlocks.
The five roads which Naidu has asked DDA to decongest include Urban Extension Road-II which links North Delhi with airport/Gurgaon; extension of Chattarpur & Mandi Road; Extension of Barapullah Phase-III from East Delhi to Airport; Dwarka Expressway; and new connections from Noida and Faridabad.
Naidu has asked DDA to engage an internationally-reputed consultant for preparing feasibility reports for projects related to decongestion of the mentioned roads.
