DDA asked to pay property tax by civic agencies
New Delhi- Recently the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) was asked to pay the property tax for the year 2012-2013 by the civic agency followed by the South Municipal Corporation.
The property tax was to be paid by the DDA for using parks and grounds in East Delhi for various events like marriages, functions and ceremonies.
Although the parks and the grounds belonged to the DDA, the authority is supposed to pay property tax as these places are used to generate revenue, as per the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act. The notice sent to DDA by corporation stated that the authority should assess its dues and pay taxes as per the rule.
The property tax should be paid to the East corporation followed by the annual revenue and calculation of the property tax to be paid by the DDA. Both commercial and non-commercial events are held in the parks and the grounds as stated on the DDA website. The tax is followed by an outstanding payment of the previous year. Around 2.15 lakh were under the defaulted property tax payments as per the East corporation.
There is an absence of waiving or any amnesty scheme for people who have failed to pay property tax along with a certain amount of interest as their dues.
