DDA vs South Corporation in farmhouse battle
The South Corporation and Delhi Development Authority (DDA) have engaged in a dispute over the fate of farmhouses in the city. Both the agencies are fighting to establish their authority over the properties that will bring Rs 600-1,000 crore into the treasury as convergence fee.
The dispute started when DDA passed a proposal to bring the farmhouse under them and also initiated the process of regularizing the illegal constructions added to these properties over the years.
Regarding this matter, the south corporation passed a resolution stating that DDA will not carry out the transfer any more. As per the councilor, DDA refused to agree to the resolution and they will take it up with the lieutenant governor.
The chairman of standing committee said that it’s been many years that farmhouses have been governed by the rules and regulations of the municipal corporation. Now DDA wants to take it over as the process has been initiated to regularize the illegal constructions in the farmhouses.
As per the proposal passed by the DDA, the farmhouse owners will be paying a convergence fee to regularize the additional constructions.
Although the fee is quite expensive but it will bring a lot of revenue. Almost more than 3,200 of the 4500 farmhouses in Delhi fall under the jurisdiction of the South corporation and are one of the major sources of income in the form of property tax.
2500 farmhouses falls under the south Delhi in areas like Chhatarpur, Mahipalpur and 700 in the Najafgarh zone. There are many farmhouses which have come up illegally and have been demanding regularization for the past few years.
Recently, Delhi got a notification saying that farmhouses in green/agricultural areas that came up before February 7, 2007, can be regularized after paying convergence charges.
