Delhi Airport Metro to run faster
Now the commuters will reach early to their destinations as the Airport Metro Express Line (AMEL) at Delhi will run faster.
An official said the Delhi Metro has conducted inspections of the corridor and currently the AMEL is running at 60 km/ph. The train speed will be increased to 70 km/ph from Monday and to 80 km/ph in a phased manner.
Due to some safety issues, the airport line was closed for six months, during the time, the commuters in Delhi faced a lot of hurdles commuting and also when opened, the metro was running very slow, especially at the turnings. Now that the metro is back in full swing, the commuters of Delhi will be relieved.
On the 22.7 km corridor, the operations started in January at speeds of 30-35 km/ph and gradually increased to 60 km/ph.
The Delhi Airport Metro Line is a joint venture between Delhi Metro and Reliance Infra. After some faults were detected in the civil structure, operations on the airport line suspended on July 8 last year. The trains were running at a speed of 105 km/ph before the suspension of the service.
The Airport Metro has six stations and ferries over 15,000 people daily. It has ferried 68 lakh passengers in over 70,000 trips in 15 months.
