Delhi government all set to regularise 205 unauthorised colonies
New Delhi- Delhi government has approved regularisation of around 205 unauthorised colonies in the city.
The proposal to regularise the settlements were given provisional regularisation certificates four years ago, but were kept pending till now.
In this regard, a meeting of the Delhi Cabinet presided over by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit was held and the Cabinet gave in principle approval for regularisation of 205 unauthorised colonies.
Official sources said that 157 colonies of the total 205 colonies came up partly on forest land while 48 settlements have encroached land belonging to Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
Once clearance is obtained from Forest department and ASI, the government will regularise the colonies. In September, the government had regularised around 895 unauthorised colonies which are home to around 35 lakh people.
Developmental works in all the colonies of the city which were regularised earlier will be started soon. The list of the 205 colonies that has been given for approval will be announced shortly.
The government has directed all the three municipal corporations to take the help of professional architects in making the layout plans for the colonies which were already regularised.
In 2008, the then Dikshit government had issued provisional regularisation certificates to over 1,639 unauthorised colonies ahead of assembly polls. It had also promised to regularise the colonies if Congress came to power for the third term.
After the Congress’ defeat in municipal polls in April, Dikshit had asked all concerned departments to speed up the regularisation process. Assembly polls in Delhi are scheduled for December.
