Delhi government to revive the DUMTA Act
New-Delhi- It is believed that the Delhi government has planned to revive the Delhi Urban Mass Transit Authority (DUMTA) Act, 2009 which can help in maintaining co-ordination between the transport department in the city and the traffic police.
This decision was taken by the Delhi government after the gruesome Delhi Gang rape incident on December 16 which portrayed that there was very less coordination between the transport department and traffic police.
With the revival of the Act, all the agencies will come under one roof in order to plan better for controlling the traffic in the city.
It was prominent through the gang rape incident that there was a lack of coordination between the transport department and traffic police. Only to avoid such incidents, the authorities are keen to set up the DUMTA Act within the city.
Once the DUMTA Act is implemented in the city, it will be easier to control all the agencies which are involved in traffic, transport, road maintenance and engineering, However, the authority will be responsible for maintaining smooth traffic movement in the city.
Both the Delhi police and the traffic police are inter-related and fall under the Home Ministry. Henceforth, implementation of any such rule will require approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
