Delhi Metro amongst Top 100 World Class Innovative Infrastructures
The ‘Infrastructure 100: World Class Markets Report’included Delhi Metro amongst its prestigious list of projects that have been deemed to qualify world class standards of innovation.
Apart from the Delhi Metro, the Yamuna Expressway was also amongst the list of 100 most innovative infrastructures in the world which is a prestigious nomination for the projects. The Delhi Metro has proved its sustained efforts in providing world class mass transportation infrastructure for the residents of the NCR.
Other than these two, six other projects have been included in the report, three of which are from Gujarat.
Selection Basis: This list was prepared by the KPMG after careful scrutiny on the basis of different infrastructure projects analysed by a global panel of industry experts who were responsible for selecting the 100 most innovative infrastructure investment projects. The 100 projects that have been selected were made on the basis of scale, feasibility, technical or financial complexity, innovation and impact on society, according to Delhi government.
Lt. Governor, Najeeb Jung, praised the efforts of the Delhi Jal Board in improving the water and wastewater infrastructure in city. Its recognition has been a matter of pride for the nation. The ongoing measures, through this selection will receive a boost and will help in further improving the ongoing measures taken by the board in improving water distribution in the capital.
Project plans: The project also aims at improving the water quality flowing into the water which will be done by commissioning waste water intercepting sewers that will cover a 59km course along three major drains – Najafgarh, Supplementary and Shahdara. The interception of the sewage will also be done in the surrounding 190 subsidiary small drains which will then be conveyed into the nearest wastewater treatment plant. These steps will ensure that only treated sewage water is being discharged into the drains.
Delhi Metro has also been credited for having built the best transportation network in the world. The Metro is also expanding its network coverage and is presently in the third phase of development in which it plans to cover over 105 kms of distance and will take a total length of over 300 kms.
