Delhi & NCR: Barwala villagers campaign against DDA: Construction of 10,000 Rohini flats delayed
In DDA’s 2014 housing scheme, out of the 25,000 flats, over 10,000 are in Rohini’s sectors 34 and 35. The DDA’s official deadline is March next year, and a majority of them are unlikely to be handed over by the deadline. Barwala villagers had filed a number of cases against DDA claiming that their land was acquired illegally and with a paltry compensation. These legal hassles had delayed the construction work and have irked the ire of the locals.
The village, which has been campaigning against the acquisition since 2005, is spread across sectors 37, 36, 35 and parts of sector 34 of Rohini. In the current scheme, the biggest chunk of10875 flats is being offered in Rohini’s sector 34 and 35. The locals are opposing the construction work and DDA is in a soup as the delay is causing inconvenience to the home buyers.
In April last year, Naresh Kumar, a resident, had filed a writ petition in the high court (HC) against DDA’s plan to construct the flats in sectors 34-37. The petition was dismissed by the high court, following which he filed an SLP (special leave petition) in the Supreme Court (SC). The SLP filed in the Supreme Court ordered a stay on the construction, by DDA. The flat owners are waiting with a bated breath to hear the decision from the SC.
