Delhi/NCR: 18 people booked in Rs 350-crore Greater Noida land scam
In an FIR lodged on Tuesday in connection with the Greater Noida land scam, 18 people have been named for allegedly fudging land and land compensation records to carry out the Rs 350-crore scam.
The people who have been named in the FIR include 10 officials of the land consolidation department, including the deputy director, registrar, accountants and land consolidation officers. The remaining 8 people who have been booked include other co-sharers – allegedly land mafia – on whose names land compensation was collected deceitfully.
The land records which were fudged to orchestrate the Greater Noida land scam pertain to a massive area which comes under the jurisdiction of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA).
The FIR which was lodged on Tuesday is the second FIR in the Greater Noida land scam. In the first FIR, which was lodged in June 2013, as many as 32 people were booked for forgery and manipulation of land records. However, till now no arrests have been made in the case.
The Greater Noida land scam came to light one year back when a complaint was filed by several farmers with the commissioner of the state’s land consolidation department. The state government constituted a three-member panel to look into the complaints. It was found that government authorities has connived with private parties in several instances of fraud, which altogether totalled more than Rs 350 crore.
