Delhi/NCR: Unitech Residences homebuyers protest against delay in possession of flats
On Sunday, over 150 home-buyers of Uni-tech Residences flats staged a peaceful protest against the delay in the possession of their flats. The flats at the Uni-tech residences project were scheduled to be delivered by the developer, Uni-tech, by 2011 end.
With only 22 flats having been handed over by Uni-tech so far, and with no construction work having been undertaken by the developer in the last more than two years, the protesting home-buyers gathered at the project site to mourn the mock death of their fellow neighbour.
Marking a peaceful protest over the delay in possession of flats, families that have invested in the Unitech Residences project came dressed in white on Sunday, and carried out the Hindu cremation and Christian burial rituals to mourn the mock death of their neighbour.
In reference to the Sunday protest, Vikram Bishnoi – President of Residences Apartments Buyers Association (RABA) – said: “Today, we are witnessing the death of a typical debt-ridden customer who fought inflation, rising equated monthly installments and sky-rocketing rent.”
Bishnoi described Unitech as a “a modern-day defaulter who continue to fleece customers of their hard-earned money,” and said that the developer had not only cheated the potential homebuyers at Unitech Residences, but had also “murdered its own consciousness for greed of wealth at the cost of customers.”
