Delhi’s infrastructure to improve shortly
Major moves to improve the quality of life in the national capital are being undertaken by the state government to uplift the face of the nation. Delhi being the national capital of India receives the maximum number of foreign delegates and they make an impression about the country by looking at the capital. If we want to attract foreign investors, then we need to change this picture.
The Delhi Development Authority has agreed to take up projects which aim to build the public amenities closer to home and make roads less congested and safer.Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu stressed on the need to address the city’s problems of congestion on roads, housing shortages as well as lack of public spaces and other amenities.
Naidu was holding a meeting with the Urban Development Secretary Shankar Aggarwal and DDA Vice Chairman Balwinder Kumar. In this meeting it was decided that the DDA would take up the construction works of elevated or new roads, the country’s first cycle-sharing system at Dwarka in southwest Delhi, integrated passenger terminals and new self-contained sub-cities.
The first cycle-sharing system would cover 65 square km of area with 300 cycle stations that would have modern smart-card based inter face, computerised docking facilities and woman-friendly cycles. The good news is that the tender for this system has been invited and it would be fully functional within a year.
