Diwali adds 830 tones extra garbage in Chennai
Diwali celebrations added to the Chennai garbage woes. Around 5360 tonnes of solid waste was collected by the Chennai corporation.
The corporation collected around 830 tonnes which is higher than the quantity of waste collected on a normal day. Few areas like Anna Nagar zone with 720 tonnes and this was largest collection of garbage and the minimum was Manali with 60 tons.
Few other zones like  Tiruvottiyur-210 tonnes, Madhavaram-110 tonnes, Tondiarpet-600 tonnes, Royapuram-540 tonnes, Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar-400 tonnes, Ambattur-320 tonnes, Teynampet-650 tonnes, Kodambakkam-560 tonnes, Valasaravakkam-150 tonnes, Alandur-200 tonnes, Adyar-530 tonnes, Perungudi-170 tonnes and Sholinganallur-140 tonnes of garbage was collected by the corporation.
Although the corporation is trying to clean the city, but lots of garbage are still on the roads. However, the amount of garbage collected on the day of Diwali was relatively low. Whereas, Teynampet zone (630 tonnes) formed the largest quantity of waste in the city.
