Don’t pay VAT: Consumers forum to buyers
As per planning, 1,500 flat owners of Pune gathered at Bhave school near Perugate on Sunday morning. The owners were disgruntled because of lack of transparency on the part of builders on payment of VAT.
They were visibly angry and confused as they sought clarification on how much exactly do they owe the builders.
The awareness programme was jointly organised by the Sajag Nagarik Manch, the Akhil Bharatiya Grahak Panchayat and the Grahak Hitwardhini to unite flat owners and address their concerns.
Many consumer forums appealed to owners, who bought flats between June 20, 2006, and March 31, 2010, not to pay the VAT as there was no consistency and transparency regarding the amount to be paid to the builders.
The consumers were also asked not to approach the court as individuals or through their housing societies but through the consumer forums who will put up their cases.
