Property taxIn yet another instance, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has failed to recover dues worth Rs 2800 crore as per internal audit reports.

Also, they have failed to recover another Rs 2264 crore dues from the state. Around 51 audit reports were prepared contain 1.5 lakh audit notes.

The civic body preferred to stay silent over the failure in recovering the taxpayers’ money. The streak of ignorance reportedly began in 1996 and continued till 2008.

The audit notes were circulated to various departments of the BMC but that did not propel the officials meant for doing good to public.

The money is to be recovered from tax defaulters of civic services, besides excessive payments made to contractors. The non recovery of dues may shoot up as the reports for fiscal year 2008-09 and further are yet to be filed.

As per opposition parties, if the civic administration manages to recover the revenue before the 2013-14 financial plan is presented, the general public will not have to face the burden of at least one or the other tax.

Residents in Mumbai have also blamed BMC for not doing anything over recovery of around Rs 5000 crore. If the dues are recovered, then it will a sign of relief for tax payers.
