Residents dumping household garbage at an empty plot near their residences would soon be put to a stop with Mohali municipal corporation.

Mohali Municipal Corporation Commissioner Varun Roojam said, “We have spoken to resident welfare associations to start collecting fines from residents who openly dump their waste in open plots in the vicinity of their residence.”

He added, “We have also spoken to the garbage collection contractor and directed them to make arrangements to increase the frequency of collecting garbage from residences. This would put a check on the practice of dumping refuse as the contractor would be collecting it more often from residences.”

Due to dumping of garbage in open areas, there are a large number of stray dogs which roam the area making it difficult for residents to even take a walk in the parks. By imposing a fine on residents MC would also be able to solve the stray dog menace to a certain extent.
