Encroachments at TG Halli responsible for the poor inflow of water

1 Comment Sub Category:Community,Municipality Posted On: May 10, 2011

The illegal encroachments have been found in the villages of Dasanapura Hobli, Dombarahalli, Heggadadevanapura and Makali villages. Rampant encroachments around the Tippagondanahalli (TG Halli) reservoir are also largely responsible for the poor inflow of water, says the BWSSB Bangalore. The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has now identified 57 encroachments and slapped notices on them to clear the illegal units by July 2011.

Ironically, the area has been declared a green belt, an area meant only for agriculture and related activities. The BDA Bangalore has identified 57 encroachments and slapped notices on them to clear the illegal units by July 2011. These include illegal layouts, industries, godowns and buildings.

The show cause notice issued last week has reiterated that construction of any building or layout is in violation of land-usage and zonal regulations according to the Revised Master Plan – 2015. The first notice was sent to all 57 defaulters in December 12, 2009, but only 48 replied to BDA. However, their replies were found not satisfactory, forcing the BDA to issue fresh notices.

Following the rain damage last fortnight, BWSSB and urban development minister S Suresh Kumar instructed BDA to remove get rid of encroachments by July 2011. If all goes well, ideally BWSSB should be able to draw minimum 135 million litres of water from the reservoir. “The reservoir has a storage level of up to 74 ft and the maximum drawing capacity is 150 million litres,” said G Venkataraju, chief engineer, BWSSB.
