Fearing diseases residents stopped using pipe water
The residents in Perambur, Aynavaram and some parts of Pattalam have been getting polluted pipe water for the past five years. Residents blame the frequent sewage overflow in the locality for the water being polluted.The residents have been purchasing lorry water and they have been shelling out Rs 600 per month to the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB).
Residents are forced to purchase can water not only for drinking but also for cooking and other purposes.For the past five years, residents get polluted pipe water that has a foul smell and sometimes the color of the water is black.
Similar problems have been reported in Aynavaram,Perambur High Road South, Jamalia Nagar, Hyder Garden Extension, State Bank Colony and Eden garden in Perambur locality. Residents say that it is time that the capacity of the sewer lines is increased as population has shot up in the locality. Fearing diseases residents stopped using pipe water.
At the Metrowater open house meeting held on Saturday, the residents complained about this issue. The CMWSSB managing director Rajesh Lakhoni assured residents that the issue will be rectified in the next couple of days and a special team has formed to identify the point where sewage is mixing with the drinking water.
