Flat owners waiting for govt nod for compounding
More than 3,000 flat owners would be benefitted if the state government says “yes” to the Kanpur Development Authority’s proposal to compound illegal structures. To legalize the illegal construction, the state government has asked the authority to prepare a compounding policy.
According to sources more than 3,000 buildings have been raised against the sanctioned map in the city. KDA had sealed 400-odd buildings under construction in 2013 under the purview of its special campaign against illegal building. Sources also revealed that in addition to compounding, KDA had also proposed to reduce the width of the road to legalize the compounding.
Owners of plots of 356 sq metres or more had got flats constructed on the basis of single unit residence map. The builders, who had raised 10 or more units (flats) on those plots sold them. As per norms of KDA, those three-storey buildings having height of 10.5 metres could be raised in single residential accommodation. However, the builders had raised the buildings of four or five storeys. Moreover, these multi-flat buildings have roads in front of them which is merely 9-metre wide. Hence, the illegal construction could not be compounded.
