GHMC demolishes top floor of building at Banjara Hills
Hyderabad – The sixth floor of a building on Banjara Hills was demolished by officials of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation ( GHMC) circle number 10 with the assistance of the local police. This floor was razed off since it was constructed illegally.
This property in Banjara Hills belongs to Ranbir Singh Bagga. He initially applied for construction of cellar for parking, ground plus four upper floors and got permission for the same. These four floors were to be utilised for commercial purpose. But actually he constructed a sub-cellar, cellar, ground, a service floor and five upper floors.
According to the commissioner, statutory notices were issued to the owner in 2008. This was done so that owner can obtain injunction order from a city civil court. Meanwhile, the owner applied for the regularisation of building under the new Building Penalisation Scheme (BPS).
After inspection the building site, GHMC officials declined to regularise the building as the original building plan did not show the fifth and sixth floor. The construction work of a swimming pool was under process on the fifth floor. They also stated that regularisation cannot be done as the these two floors were constructed secretly after the cut off date.
After this inspection, the owner resumed construction work of the sixth floor slab. It was being illegally constructed on the western side of the premises.
The owner was issued notices on February 13 and 22, 2013 to stop the illegal construction. But the construction did not stop which forced the officials to take serious action.
Two weeks back, many citizens complained about the illegal structures being constructed in areas like Kukatpally, Uppal, S.R. Nagar, Ameerpet and L.B. Nagar. These buildings were being constructed on government roads without seeking permission from the concerned authorities. The residents complained that these unauthorized constructions are blocking pathways of two- and three-wheeler causing inconvenience to the residents.
The additional commissioner assured residents that serious action will be taken against builders after investigation.
