GHMC plans to double property tax

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is planning to double the tax, so the residential property owners have to pay more tax.

According to the authorities, property tax of commercial properties in L B Nagar, Uppal, Malkajgiri and Qutubullapur municipal circles may be cut by 15-20%.

GHMC is to raise minimum property tax to 80 paise per square feet (sft) from 40 paise and the maximum tax at Rs 3.75 per sft from Rs 1.25, sources said.

Slums and areas with poor infrastructure would be levied a minimum rate, while in upmarket areas like Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills would have to pay Rs 3.75 per sft.
