Godavari drinking water project picks up speed
Hyderabad- The work of Godavari drinking water project is progressing but its a big challenge to complete it on scheduled date of December 2013.
Godavari drinking water project will draw 172 mgd (10 tmc) of water from the Yellampally barrage and augment drinking water supply. There were many questions raised on the feasibility of this water project. It was also stuck in land acquisition problem but finally the project is moving.
A meeting was held between Board director and top officials with Forest Department to fasten the process of land acquisition. To construct reservoir at Ghanpur, 12 km of forest land in three districts of Karimnagar, Medak and Ranga Reddy will be required. Even forest department is ready to give their own land at Murmur for this project.
The Board has already acquired 1,826 acres of land to construct 186 km of pipeline. The construction of 159 km length pipes has been finished. A pipeline from Yellampally barrage in Karimnagar to Ghanpur in Ranga Reddy district will cover 174 km distance among which pipeline if 104 km distance has been laid. Project Director is very confident of acquiring forest land soon with completion of pipe work by June 2013.
Till now the expenses recorded is Rs. 1,679 crore with all payments of Rs. 1,615.38 crore. The following work which costs Rs 50 crore is in progress includes civil work, lining of channels, raw water intake channel, construction of sump and pump house.
Pipe laying work is also running at a good speed. Construction of a water treatment plant, clear water reservoir and pump houses is also running at Bommakal, Mallaram and Kondapaka. A financial tie up of Rs 1,ooo crore is also done with Housing And Urban Development Corporation Limited (HUDCO).
