Greater Noida-GNIDA to set up water kiosks across the city
The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) has geared up to set up water kiosks across the city. As a part of the project, which would cost of Rs 10 lakh, the Authority has installed the first water cooler at the most frequented Pari Chowk round about. Within the next week they plan to install more units.
“As part of the project in Greater Noida, we have installed the water kiosk at Pari Chowk so people get aware about this new facility,” said RK Dev, General Manager, Urban Services, GNIDA. He added, once the project is successful, we will replicate the same across the city. The idea is to make safe as well as cold water available to the maximum number of people in public places.
Within the next week they plan to install more units at Knowledge Park-II near GNIT College, sector Omega, site-IV roundabout, sector Gamma-II, near the Greater Noida Authority office and the Surajpur crossing. In the second phase, more areas will be earmarked for the project. Places like bus stops, market place, commercial belts will be on the priority list while installing the automated water dispensers.
But even as Greater Noida Authority has taken this step to give respite to people, Noida Authority is yet to implement the same. The issue was raised in the Noida Authority’s last board meeting. The chairman had even asked the officials to construct some water kiosks at important intersections and locations in the city, but no action has been taken so far. Noida Authority officials said that the issue is not just about installing the water kiosks, but the challenge is their maintenance and security.
“So far, the Noida Authority has no such plan. We have come to know that the Greater Noida Authority has started such a project. If we find it successful, a similar project will also be launched in Noida,” said Atul Kumar, project engineer (Jal).
Naveen Arora, director of the company installing the water coolers, said, “At Pari Chowk, the dispenser is churning out almost 1,500 litres of filtered water daily through the Reverse Osmosis process.” To make sure that the area remains clean and water is available 24×7, the site is manned by a security guard, a plumber, an electrician and a cleaner. The maintenance and repairs of the water coolers is the responsibility of the company which is installing it.
