No Comments Sub Category:Delhi-NCR,Realty News Posted On: Aug 13, 2014

Much-needed environmental balance to the city of Delhi is required as the rapid urbanisation has reduced the green spaces and has disturbed the ecological balance. Since the cities are being converted into concrete jungles, the Greater Noida authority has decided to develop 800 hectares of forest land into a ‘green lung’. This move was welcomed by the citizens and botanists and zoologists equally.

The project is estimated at Rs 25 crore, and the consultants for the projectwould be appointed in the next 15 days. Rama Raman the chairperson and CEO of Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) talked about the blue-print of this entire initiative. GNIDAwill invite landscape specialists, ‘green’ architects and environment activists to participate in the programme.

The project will be designed in a phased manner. He also mentioned that his team has already developed 20 % of the 1,000 hectares which falls under Greater Noida’s forest cover.  Raman also mentioned that the project is aimed at improving the quality of life by restoring ecological balance in towns and cities. There will be a very positive impact on the environment and the benefits of the green lung will include climate and air quality improvement, energy saving, reduction of global warming and carbon dioxide, noise abatement and soil conservation.

Forest land covering 800 hectares will be developed as an eco-park. The authority will also undertake an afforestation drive and develop water bodies and nature trails. This might improve the quality of air and respiratory diseases will decrease in the city.
