Guwahati to be converted into a smart city soon
Assam’s Chief Minister TarunGogoi today asked the state’s Urban Development Department to prepare the terms and conditions of the ‘Smart City‘. Gogoi mentioned that Guwahati has found a place in the list of 100 such cities envisioned by the Centre and he wants to see the dream take shape soon.
The sources in the Chief Minister’s office (CMO) mentioned that Information and Communication Technology, rain water harvesting, energy conservation and many other means will be taken in the smart city. This will make them better than the current urban cities in India.
Guwahati with its well-established rail and road connectivity has the potential to become a Smart City. The chief minister also asked the urban development department to study the features of the satellite towns that include mobility and traffic conditions, street-lighting, water supply, sewage networks, security-related aspects, amenities and other physical and social infrastructure.
Once it is decided as to what all need to be included in the smart city, the blue print to convert Guwahati into a smart city can be taken up. The north eastern parts of India has educated manpower who have been constantly demanding that their states should be developed so that they need not migrate to Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata and other metros for work. If Guwahati is developed into a smart city in the coming years, then we can expect that this problem can be resolved to an extent.
