Hidco likely to auction plot in New Town for a hospital
Kolkata- In a recent meeting, the Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (Hidco) had plans to auction more land through e-auction, especially the 10-acre land situated in Rajarhat New Town, for setting up a private medical college and a hospital.
There have already been many floated expressions of interest from the authorities for the project. However, the last date of submission of the applications is March 14.
According to the Hidco manager, the key 10-acre plot located in Action Area II of New Town will be allotted for the construction of a hospital on a lease-hold basis. The hospital can be set up by any public charitable trust or society, based on the Medical Council of India (MCI) guidelines. The norms also state that a minimum of 10 acre will be required for setting up of the medical college.
The officials reported that it was quite difficult to identify the 10 acre of compact land in the New Town due to the fact that the government had decided not to acquire any more land there. Furthermore, the 2.5 acre plot situated in the sub-central business district will be e-auctioned.
This will be later converted into a retail-cum-office space with another half acre plot into an automobile showroom. Currently, New Town does not have any hospital and that the residents have to travel to the neighboring areas of the Salt Lake or the VIP road for a nursing home or a hospital.
Previously, a plot was sold for the development of a polyclinic project, but more demand was for a medical college hospital. However, to bring in more transparency, Hidco has started e-auctioning the plots with the first plot being a 2-acre one on which a high school project was developed fetching a capital of about 10.10 crore.
Last year, the authorities had reaped a benefit from a 2.5 acre plot for the development of an office complex and generated an amount of Rs. 51.13 crore. The plot broke all the land selling records in Rajarhat New Town based on the per-acre price as it was priced more than Rs. 20 crore per acre and Rs. 34 lakh per cottah.
