HMDA to clean Hussainsagar Lake
The hazardous waste being dumped in Hussainsagar Lake has been a contentious issue for the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA).
In order to dredge the hazardous material out of the lake, the authority has decided to use the services of Environmental Protection Training and Research Institute (EPTRI). The lake cleaning project has been taken up with help from the Japan International Cooperation Agency. The HMDA plans to dredge the lake and shift residues from close to the mouth of four nalas that join the water body.
Although the action plan comes across as a much needed one, attention has to be paid on concerns that there is high presence of hazardous material and to shift the sediments may turn out to be a challenging task.
