HMDA to conduct survey of RRR
Hyderabad- The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has decided to inspect the 289-km Regional Ring Road (RRR).
The RRR is being planned outside Outer Ring Road (ORR) which gives great connectivity to all major parts of the city. The construction work of ORR is progressing in full swing and is expected to be completed by 2014. The completion of ORR will fuel the growth of the surrounding areas.
The HMDA has proposed a budget of Rs 3,772 crore for the year 2013-14. It has earmarked a budget of Rs 300 crore for RRR which would pass through the National Highways 4, 7, 9 and 202. This road will connect areas like Shankarpally, Chevella, Toopran, Bibinagar, Sangareddy, Shadnagar, Agapally and Choutuppal in Medak, Mahabubnagar and Nalgonda districts of state. According to HMDA officials, the new projects which are taken up at developing suburbs would increase connectivity (rail and road), thereby reducing burden on developed areas.
Firstly, the width of the existing road network of RRR and its missing links will be taken into consideration. In this regard, the authority will conduct a survey. According to a senior official, out of 289 km proposed RRR, 82-km missing links are to be developed at high priority. This means that 207 km road stretch is already in place and only the expansion of the existing road to 90 metres (about 270 feet wide) has to be carried out.
A major part of budget (Rs 1,551) has been allocated for the ORR project in order to ease traffic congestion in the city.
The HMDA has also earmarked around Rs 1,131 crore for many new projects in Hyderabad. The projects include development of Hyderabad Habitat Center on public private partnership (PPP) model (Rs 50 crore), development of Science City in Hyderabad Metropolitan Area on PPP mode (Rs 35 crore), the site and services development in Jawaharnagar (Rs 25 crore), transit oriented development at Moosapet , Khanamet PPP and Saroornagar (Rs 60 crore), the Inter-City Bus Terminal (Rs 6 crore), logistic hubs at Mangalapally and Batasingaram (Rs 125 crore), road over-bridge at Sanjeevaiah Park (Rs 10 crore ), infrastructure facilities for a residential layout in Uppal, R and R package of Uppal Bhagat, Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at Kokapet (Rs 25 crore), etc.
The HMDA has also decided to spend Rs 101 crore on Hussainsagar Lake and Catchment Area Improvement Project and other pending works. This is for the first time that HMDA has allocated more than 50 percent of the budget on project works and capital expenditure.
