Hyderabad: SCB threatens to seal Begumpet Airport over Rs 12.38-cr tax dues

No Comments Sub Category:Hyderabad,Realty News Posted On: Sep 07, 2014

The premises of the Begumpet Airport may be sealed by the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) due to non-payment of property tax arrears of a whopping amount of Rs 12.38 crore.

Going by the general land records (GLR), the sprawling 700-acre Begumpet Airport is located in survey No. 777, which falls within the jurisdiction of the Secunderabad Cantonment.

The Begumpet Airport premises were recently visited by a two-member SCB team which met with the officials and served red notices for the payments of dues of Rs 12.38 crore. The airport authorities have been given a September 11 deadline for clearing the tax dues. Any failure in this regard may lead to the airport property being sealed by the SCB without prior notice.

Pointing out that Begumpet Airport – with tax arrears to the tune of Rs 12.38 crore – is the biggest property tax defaulter, according to SCB records, senior SCB tax department official Annie said that the last tax payment by the airport authorities was made in 2006.

Further adding that since 2006, the airport authorities have failed to clear dues,” the official said: “We have already served notices on August 11 on the Begumpet airport director under section 100 of the Cantonment Act 2006.”
