Hyderabad water board wants a regulator

1 Comment Sub Category:Civic Issues,Hyderabad,Municipality Posted On: Nov 21, 2012

waterHyderabad- In a recent revision of the drinking water tariff in Hyderabad,  the tariff is expected to go sturdier as the officials have planned to  initiate a Water Regulatory Authority along with the Electricity Regulatory Commission.

The decision to have a regulatory authority was made by the Water Board with an institutional set up mechanism which can regulate the allocation, management and utilization of the limited water resources with a participatory approach.

It was seen that there was a need for the regulatory authority to strike the balance between the various departments which use water resources along with a periodic revision of the tariff and proper distribution of water for various bulk purposes like drinking, irrigation, industrial and commercial use.

The experts are the Administrative Staff College of India who were requested by the Water Board to conduct a complete study with a submission report regarding the feasibility of setting up a Water Regulatory Authority with powers to hike or reduce the water tariff based on the expenditure incurred by Water Board and the municipalities in the process of the treatment of water and its supply.
