Owing to this, the Corporation officials held a meeting and decided to seal about 70 illegal cellphone towers by the end  of this month.

This decision might hit the cellular services in East Delhi with the sealing of the towers by the Delhi Municipal Corporation.

In case a cellphone tower owner wants to retain with their tower, a whopping price of Rs. 5 lakh should be paid as penalty as per the new policy which leaves them with very less chances of saving one lakh as per the old policy.

Certain amount of fee relaxation was demanded by the councilors. The sealing of the towers will eventually have an impact on the users. The operators feel that they should be given a months time which can let them regularise it.

According to Mehek Singh, chairman, standing committee, East Delhi corporation, the large number of towers were set up with a connivance of the officials only and henceforth, the operators should pay the penalty which will generate revenue for the government.

The operation will be started with the removal of cellphone towers near schools and hospitals followed with the sealing of commercial properties without a valid permit.
