IMFL outlet poses major problem to residents
The residents of Narmada Apartments, in Raja Annamalai Puram in Chennai, are upset that Government authorities have not taken any step to shift a wine shop, despite repeated requests for more than a decade.
The wine shop is a retail outlet of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) of Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC). It is located near the entrance of the apartment complex and is annoying the residents.
As the customers to the liquor shop park their vehicles chaotically, there is parking problem every day and free flow of traffic is hampered on both Canal Bank Road and Third Cross Street.
Residents allege that the customers throw plastic sachets, bottles, and food leftovers near the compound wall and entrance of the apartment. The major problem starts at evenings when drunkards ease out on road awkwardly, and the stench in the locality is intolerable.
A senior police official said that police patrols will be carried on and tipplers creating nuisance will be arrested. TASMAC staff will be instructed to close the outlet after 10 p.m.
