JNNRMThe pending work of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) projects need to be completed before March 2014 and the deadline has been set by the Union government.
The JNNURM projects were expected to get completed by March 2012 but due to delay in the construction work, the deadline has been extended. In a written document to the state government, the central government has sanctioned 11 projects under the JNNUM as stated by Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) administration.
Four projects have already been completed by the PMC in which two projects are 70 percent completed and the remaining five projects are completed up to 85 percent. So far the civic body has used Rs 1,585 crore for these projects. The completed projects are sewage treatment plant, Baner Subway, Sangamwadi road and the pilot BRTS.
To improve the infrastructure in 63 cities to match the rapid urbanisation , the centre had launched the JNNURM.  For the JNNURM projects, the state’s share is 20% and the Centre’s share is 50%, while the local self-government body bears the remaining 30%. It has two sub-missions- to provide basic services to urban poor and the urban infrastructure and governance.
The PMC has come up with the development plan with cost estimation of Rs 6,643 crore. The development projects will include bus rapid transit system, solid waste management, river and lake improvement, roads, water supply, storm water drains and slum improvement and rehabilitation.
