Vacant plots in and around Indiranagar are posing a major threat to the residents in terms of health and sanitation. Some irresponsible denizens converting the vacant plots into garbage dumping area and the unhygienic ambience is leading to mosquito breeding making it difficult for residents who live near these plots.

Thippasandra, Jeevan Bima Nagar, 100ft Road and HAL are the main areas, where one can find maximum number of such vacant plots. All these plots are being used for dumping garbage and debris.

According to the sources, few of the plot owners are in Bangalore and few are out of Bangalore.

Dumping of garbage in vacant plots has remained a regular habit among the citizens. In most of the cases, few of the residents have come forward and shelled out money to clean these plots. According to the sources, the residents tried contacting the plot owners and most of them were not bothered about the problem and also denied putting compound wall or cleaning the plot.

BBMP Bangalore has also found that the properties meant for residential purposes are being utilized for commercial activities. The vacant plots are being converted into garbage dumping area or as urinal by irresponsible denizens.

According to V Natraj, assistant engineer, BBMP, “We are enquiring about every plot owner and sending notices to them. We will also be levying heavy fine from them.”

The residents have complained constantly on the matter and are fed up with no actions being taken. “According to the new comprehensive development plan of Bangalore, certain rules have been relaxed and mixed zoning has led to the trend of commercialization. They are playing with the rules, which is a blow on the face of sincere tax payers like us. What can the residents do with no one taking the responsibility,” complained the residents.
