Jaipur Metro to start trial runs at night
Jaipur- Trial runs for the Jaipur Metro at nights is likely to start in few days.
The General Manager of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DRMC) said that, the newly purchased coaches will have trial runs in non-revenue hours (11pm to 6am). And the coaches that were brought earlier from Delhi metro will be run during revenue hours (6am to 11pm).
The first set of metro coaches for Jaipur metro rail project will be bought from Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) in Bangalore. A trial run of one lakh kilometres is mandatory for these rolling stocks to be operational. Thus for few months the trail runs will have to be carried out at night.
BEML is a public sector defence Power Supply Unit (PSU) company of Bangalore. In 2011, an amount of 318 crore was handed over to the company for manufacture, supply, testing and commissioning of 10 train sets of four coaches each (i.e total 40 cars to Jaipur Metro Rail Project).
The proposed Jaipur metro comprises of two phases. Phase I starts from Mansarovar and connects to Badi Chaupar through Civil Lines and Chandpole. Phase II will connect Sitapura Industrial Area in south to Ambabari in North through Ajmeri Gate and MI Road.
The civil construction at Mansarovar to Chandpole corridor is already delayed by four months and the deadline is June 2013. Thus, the DMRC has thought to run the coaches already in operation on the Delhi metro route. Oscillation trial runs are not required for these operational coaches. But, a clearance certificate would be required for safety purpose. This certificate would be issued by commissioner of metro rail safety.
The oscillation trials will be carried out by a research body of the ministry of railways named Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) after two months.
According to sources, maintenance charges of the operational coaches would be more due to different wheel profile. The Jaipur metro coaches have been modified according to the sharp curves on the tracks. For the first few months, the DMRC will have to bear these additional charges.
DMRC aimed to complete entire civil construction work of the corridor for trial runs before December 2012. But due to many obstacles and setbacks, the work could not be completed within the stipulated time.
The deadline set to complete construction work between Shyam Nagar and Ram Nagar station was this March end. But now it has been delayed by few weeks and is expected to be completed in mid-April.
Initially, the trial runs will be carried out only between Mansarovar and railway station for the public. The complete route will be operational after three months.
