Kanpur: KMC to build multi-level parking slots on its unused land
Kanpur Municipal Corporation (KMC) has revealed in a Monday announcement that it will build multi-level parking slots as well as commercial premises on its unused land in the city. For designing the multi-level parking slots and commercial structures, the KMC will seek the services of an architect.
KMC’s plans for multi-level parking slots at its unused land areas comes after the issue of the Corporation’s unused vacant land and dilapidated buildings was raised by a group of corporators, who had apprised the KMC chief about the fact that land and dilapidated buildings had been occupied illegally.
In addition, the use of KMC’s assets was also pointed out by the Divisional Commissioner. The suggestion put forth by the commissioner was to convert BM Srivastava Market in Parade into a swanky shopping complex.
With KMC having decided to build multi-level parking slots on its unused land, the move will facilitate the parking of vehicles at these parking slots; thereby reducing the traffic jams caused by the parking of vehicles on the roads.
Noting that KMC has efforts underway to identify its assets which are lying unused at different places in the city, the Municipal Commissioner said: “After identifying the assets, services of architects would be sought to convert these places in shopping complexes and multi-level parking slots.”
