Karnataka faces water crisis
As the drought condition continues to worsen, Karnataka is facing an imminent water crisis. In five years the situation became worse. Water level has reduced drastically in irrigation dams.
The State government is busy with the election that they are not able to concentrate on water problem. Pushcarts and tankers are used to supply water in towns and villages.
7,500 villages are facing water crisis and in this summer about 15,000 villages could be affected, as said by the state administration. The state will compulsorily run out of water if there is not enough rain.
Mangalore, Bangalore and Mysore have alerted the residents to reuse water because of decreasing water levels at Krishnarajasagar and Kabini dams. Hubli-Dharwad is already rationing the water.
The Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) recently made it mandatory for water tankers to install GPS (global positioning system) to ensure fair distribution of water in all areas as the water level at Thumbe is decreasing.
If the state government does not take steps at the earliest than Karnataka is going to face a dark future. Reservoirs are at dangerous levels as rain has been inadequate.
