KSEB and SmartCity get into a dispute over land

The Kerala state electricity board (KSEB) has got into controversies with the Smart City authorities over land. It seems if it is a Smart City then controversies surely must be around the corner. At a time when the long-delayed first phase of the project is nearing completion, yet another controversy seems to be coming up in this project.

The Smart City authorities have demanded around one acre of land which is in possession of KSEB at Brahmapuram. However electricity board, KSEB is not ready to part with the land.

KSEB wants to make a quick buck in the process. KSEB has demanded immediate payment of Rs 7.5 crore from the Smart City authorities for handing over 100 acres of land for the project. Since only seven months are left for inaugurating the first phase, KSEB also wants to take an advantage of the situation.

A few years ago, there was a row between KSEB and Smart City over the electricity transmission towers passing through the project land. Smart City authorities wanted the board to shift the towers erected on their land. After several rounds of talks, it was decided that KSEB will hand over the land in its possession to the Smart City. As per the decision, the Smart City authorities had deposited Rs one crore with KSEB for shifting their installations.
