Labour colony residents in Delhi to get ownership rights
Residents of various labour colonies in Delhi will be given ownership rights as planned by the government, ahead of Assembly elections. The proposal will be forwarded to Delhi cabinet for approval. Around 4,844 houses of four colonies named Nehru Nagar, Giri nagar, Moti Nagar and Vishwakarma, will be made freehold.
AK Walia, labour department minister said the flats were actually assigned as per hire and purchase. However, out of 4,844 flats, 1,971 flats are on leasehold. The ownership rights should be given to those workers as it was done in the case of resettlement colonies.
These plan was been initiated by the central government, hence the proposal of the scheme should be send to the Central government for the final approval, Walia informs.
Officials said that residents of single-room flats will not only have to bear the cost of the flat but in case there is any encroachment carried out by them, that part will also have to be regularised. For this, prevailing circle rates will be taken into account.
As per the record, 2,664 flats are present in Karampura, 852 in Vishwakarma, 1,184 in Giri Nagar and around 1,000 avialable in Nehru Nagar. Those flats are mostly occupied by the genuine allottees or it had been sold by the original allottees. But in some cases, it has been encroached by people. These flats were actually were to accommodate industrial workers.
