Land acquisition bill and property rates
The draft Land Acquisition Bill which was recently cleared by a group of ministers will be placed before the cabinet at the time of winter session.
The proposed new draft bill was rechristened as the Right to Fair Compensation, Resettlement, Rehabilitation and Transparency in Land Acquisition Bill will not only make the land acquisition more difficult but will also push property rates up exponentially.
However, this newly declared draft bill will divide between the land acquisition for public private partnership projects (PPP) wherein the private projects will be considered to be of public purpose and the land ownership remaining with the government. About 66% of land owners will have to give their consent for the land acquired for PPP projects along with the people on government assigned land.
