Massive protest held against Bangalore road-widening
The Save Bangalore group organized the rally in protest agaist BBMP road-widening plans. The rally started from Mysore Bank Circle and culminated at Banappa Park. Veteran freedom fighter H S Doreswamy, Saldanha and people whose properties are threatened by the roadwidening plans participated in the rally. Saldanha said Transparency International has rated the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) as the most corrupt city corporation in India.
According to source, announcement by BBMP mayor SK Nataraj in the BBMP’s road widening division, was to ease the public anger over the controversial plan. After Bangalore development ministers R Ashoka, Katta Subramanya Naidu and mayor S K Nataraj, it is now the turn of higher education minister Aravind Limbavali to air his views on road-widening. Limbavali on Tuesday said the state government was re-thinking the entire project.
At a massive protest held at Banappa Park against road-widening, the minister Limbavali said: “The state government is reconsidering and dropping the road-widening project not just in core areas but newly-added areas too. We will take up the issue before the cabinet. Instead of widening roads, we are thinking of alternative measures.”
The state government is in no mood to rush with the plan. The BBMP wants to concentrate on road-widening in Greater Bangalore areas where there is little opposition to the project. They will focus on core city areas once things calm down. The president of Residents Welfare Association Bangalore East (REWABE), CP Abraham, said his association had doubts about Nataraj’s announcement. “We know that the mayor just can’t change a Cabinet decision. It clearly shows the political motive behind whole thing,”
Justice M F Saldanha said around 370 owners of roadside shops committed suicide due to problems arising out of the city corporation’s road widening project. He was speaking at the rally against road-widening in the city.
B R Manjunath, convener of Save Bangalore, said Bangalore should follow the example of London where public transport was encouraged and there are provisions for underground parking. He said the idea of road widening should be dropped as it was anti-people and unscientific.
Minister Limbavali attended the rally on behalf of the government. More than 800 people took part in rally to protest against Bangalore road-widening.The Save Bangalore Committee members organized the rally which started from Mysore Bank Circle and culminated at Banappa Park. Students from Mount Carmel College, Mithralaya, United Mission and Tunbridge School also took part in the dharna. Former students of Stella Mary’s High School in Vyalikaval took up the cause of their school.

Perfectly written subject material , Really enjoyed examining .
Dear Mr. Manoj,
You are correct. How ever the logic behind collection of maintenance charges on per sq area is based on the fact that the common area (notionally) owned by bigger area flat owners in bigger ( in proportion to the is flat area) and as such they need to pay more. This is the reason for collecting the charges based on per sq ft area ! But between the two methods I would still vote for flat rate charges for all residents irrespective of the area of their flat !!
Parthasarathy
Sir,
pls go throught the bye laws it says .75 % of construction cost so ultimately it means sq.ft. basis.
Madam,
The commitee / society has no right to disconnect your water or sewerage line.
They are taking law in there hand and will land up in lock up if complained by the owner to local authorities.
