Metro region to be Nagpur’s key focus

No Comments Sub Category:Metro,Other cities,Realty News Posted On: Feb 28, 2013

nagpurNagpur- The city of Nagpur is all set with the development plan of metro along with its completion. Equal importance has been given to the metro region by the Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) along with other areas within municipal limits. This is clearly proved through the Budget 2013-2014.

However, most metro projects in Nagpur city are witnessing developments along with the railways. Also there has been an expansion of the board of directors of the  special purpose vehicle (SPV) which will be implementing the project along with an addition of four central government officers. Currently, NIT is a related agency along with other constituencies like NMC, MIDC and others.

An increase of Rs. 748 crore from Rs. 388.14 crore was seen in NITs budget in 2012-2013 for the coming fiscal year. There was a revision in its last year’s budget by 342.56 crore. As per an official, NIT will be spending about Rs. 742 crore for the coming fiscal year.

An aim of spending Rs. 110 crore has been set by the NIT on metro for the coming fiscal year followed by the development of warehousing zones on Amravati and Bhandara Roads and commercial and residential areas on Wardha Road. Perhaps the amount is likely to vary based on the government sanctions. A minimum income of Rs. 150 crore is expected by the agencies from this project and it has already collected Rs. 40 crore from metro region. This collection will be spent on roads.

According to an official, there were many problems being faced in the development of unauthorized layouts with 2,115 of the total 4,078 layouts being on land reserve for various purposes. The official further stated that they will not be able to develop those lands unless the state government deletes the reservations.

These layouts are inspected by a five member committee under the deputy director of the town planning (DDTP). Also, many layouts have residents who have not paid regularization charges and that the revenue generated by the NIT as regularization charges has already been spent. Currently, NIT is completely dependent on the  JNNURM funds through which the work is going on.

For the first time, NIT has opened itself for auctioning the plots. The auctioning process will be both e-auction and traditional. Doing this will avoid controversies in future.
