Chennai metroChennai - By the end of 2013, commuters will have many options to travel from elevated metro station, St Thomas Mount to others parts of the city. This station will be the first metro line to be opened.

St Thomas Mount station will link private and government bus terminus at Koyambedu with suburban rail network and Mass rapid transit system (MRTS). It is assumed that very soon passengers can move from one mode of transport to other mode of transport. If everything goes according to the plan then these stations will be shopping hubs too.

The localities nearby Koyambedu, CMBT and St Thomas Mount station will face new changes. Commuters will get easy access to the metro stations when Skywalks and double and circular roads will be used by pedestrians and buses respectively.

It is believed that with more number of infrastructure projects, the chaos at Koyambedu may vanish. Within one km radius of  grade separator at Poonamallee High Road-Jawaharlal Nehru Road junction, two metro stations will be build. In this regard a one km flyover has been proposed by highways department.

Kaliamman Koil Street is also very congested due to presence of wholesale market and buses entering this area. The proposed flyover will help to reduce the traffic at this junction. According to a official, the CMBT station will act as a center point for those people who want to go inside or outside of the Chennai city.

The Beach-Velachery-St Thomas Mount MRTS will meet the Central-St Thomas Mount Metro line in the St Thomas Mount Metro station a various levels. Passengers can reach to sub-urban railway station via foot over bridge and MTC buses can drive till front of station.

Chennai metro officials are busy planning the integration work of mono rail. For every station, intermodal connectivity is being designed in order to avoid crowd around metro stations.
