Minimum distance for residential boundary cut down to half

No Comments Sub Category:Realty News Posted On: Sep 02, 2014

The minimum distance from the boundary of a quarry to residential buildings has been cut by half to 50 metres as per a Kerala State Pollution Control Board directive. This comes in the context of the realisation by the State government that a number of quarries had closed down citing the existing distance limit, which had taken a toll on the construction sector.

The re-fixing of the distance limit has brought them back to life, according to sources. In 2007, licensing of quarries was made mandatory with an order of the Kerala High Court.

Accordingly, the Board fixed the minimum distance from areas of habitation/residential buildings at 100 metres. Quarry owners had been lobbying with the government to reduce the distance limit. The decision was taken at a meeting here presided over by the Chief Minister.

This decision has been taken by the Kerala State Pollution Board. The 50 metres cut of decision have been made in order maintain a fixed line among all the construction. The minimum distance for the habitation residential building was previously made 100 metres minimum. This decision was taken after a long time after a meeting.
