Minister suggests PPP model for developing Mangalore Airport
G M Siddeshwar, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, has put forth the suggestion to Karnataka Minister Roshan Baig and Mangalore South MLA J R Lobo to go in for the PPP model for the development of the Mangalore International Airport (MIA).
The suggestion put forth by Siddeshwar is essentially rooted in the fact that an amount of more than Rs 1,100 crore will be required for the overall development work envisaged at the MIA.
The suggestion for the PPP model for developing MIA was conveyed by Siddeshwar when the State minister and MLA paid him a visit in New Delhi on Tuesday.
With regard to the suggestion, Baig said that if a proper plan to this effect is worked out by the Centre, the plan will apparently be included in the forthcoming Global Investor Meet.
Meanwhile, Siddeshwar has also received a request from the Karnataka delegation for restarting the suspended flights from Mangalore to Kuwait directly. The direct flights between Mangalore and Kuwait have been suspended for the past six months.
Rohit Nandan, Chairman and Managing Director of Air India, also participated in the meeting; and promised that action will be taken for the redressal of the long pending grievances of NRIs residing in Kuwait.
